Entrepreneur (retailing), but found myself a professor of investing (part-time), so I focused on supervising PhD students examining what works in investing, and I wrote a few books. Quit being professor and book writing 13 years ago to focus on investing and (eventually) building a conglomerate in the style of Warren Buffett.

Joined the board of a London Stock Exchange quoted company in 2023. Tried to persuade the board and shareholders to opt for a conglomerate - learned a lot of harsh lessons, e.g. don’t challenge conventional managers until you have overwhelming power (we were the largest shareholder but that was not enough). 

Best-selling author: 6 investment books; 3 corporate finance books; 5 Financial Times Guides books: to Investing, to Value Investing; to Banking, to Financial Markets, to Bond and Money Markets.
