About
I started my first business in 2006, at 19, and bootstrapped it into Tiny, a public holding company that owns around 40 businesses including Dribbble, Letterboxd, and AeroPress. While I still control the company, I left day-to-day management and moved to an Executive Chairman role last year. I’m a glutton for punishment, so outside of Tiny I also own a collection of newspapers/news sites (most notably The Georgia Straight) and a group of restaurants and a hotel in Victoria. These are all terrible businesses.
Last year, I wrote a memoir about building my business called Never Enough. It has 4.7 stars on Amazon and people seem to like it. I’ve given away almost $20 million dollars to charity via my foundation, and have come to the conclusion that philanthropy is much harder than business. I have two young sons, 5 and 7 years old, and a wonderful partner, Zoe. I love hiking, tennis, and pickleball, and spend my summers at Shawnigan Lake.
